Trip to the north of Sweden and Norway 2010

In July 2010 Niclas, Ulrika, Shelbie and Spirit made a trip to the north of Sweden and Norway.
First destination was Piteå, then continuing to Abisko, crossing the border to Norway
heading towards Lofoten. We follwed the motor highway
E10 to its very
beginning at the southest of Lofoten. From here, we catched the ferry to Bodö and
then continued along the "Silver road" back to Piteå, stopping by at Storforsen,
and then back home again.
Resulting in 3800 kilometers on the road and wonderful memories!

A nice view over Torne träsk and the snow covered mountains.

A waterfall at the Rihtunjira river.

At the nature path along the Rihtunjira river and its waterfalls. Unfortunately it started to rain so
we couldn't make it to the top.

Shelbie enjoying our walking tour in the mountains.

Heavy rain on Shelbie who doesn't mind at all.

The famous Lapporten!

Here are some evening photos of the Abiskojåkka.

View of E10 at the beginning of Lofoten. Unfortunately we weren't lucky with the
weather conditions this day.

A magnificent view in the area around the famous Trollfjorden. Here Slöverfjorden with steep
mountains all the way down to the water line.

From one island to another on Lofoten... E10 over Gimsöystraumen.

We stayed on Gimsöy with the view over the Arctic Ocean were we could enjoy the midnight sun.

The midnight sun at 00.30.

It started to rain over Gimsöy but the sun was still shining over the Arctic ocean.

Ramberg with a nice beach and blue water but this day, we had a really bad weather.

We weren't so eager to take a bath... biting wind and only 10 degrees but a beautiful view.

A picturesque village on the Moskenesöya called Reine.

Å - the southest village at Lofoten with typical Rorbuer where the fishermen stayed
in the past. Nowadays most of them are renovated for tourism.

A rorbu again.

Leaving Lofoten with the ferry to Bodö.

The impressive mountain chain seen from the ferry is called the Lofoten wall. The small white
"dots" at the shoreline are normal size houses.

Saltstraumen outside Bodö is the world's strongest tidal current.
400 million cubic metres of water at speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour.
The whirlpools, as seen here, can be up 5 meters deep.

Saltdalsfjorden along E6 east of Bodö.

Saltdalsfjorden again.

Storjord with the Saltdal tourist center in the middle to the right on the picture with the
Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park in the background.

View of the Junkerdal National Park.

Junkerdal National Park, 550 meters above sea level.

Just after crossing the border to Sweden along the main road 95 also called the Silver road.
The road runs on the mountains above the treeline, here 740 meters above the sea level.

Back in Sweden at the Storforsen Nature Reserve close to Älvsbyn.
Pite River is one of the four unharnessed "National Rivers" in Sweden. It is one of the biggest
in Europe with its total lenght of 5 kilometers and the riverbed lowered by 82 meter.

Downstreams at Storforsen...

The dogs on leads for their own safety!
